The Black Women door opened first…

Hi Bobby, I was at your interactive performance at Berkeley Freight and Salvage this last Monday. I was the old bald white guy that got up to sing with you all on stage at the end, when you asked scared singers to come forward. A life dream come true for me, but I wish I'd had the presence of mind and heart to tell you when I had the chance how much gratitude I have for all the years you've inspired me and countless others around the world to have ridiculous amounts of musical fun using nothing more than what were born with: voices, bodies, hearts and souls. You taught classes at Tanglewood in the early 90’s. The highlight of my summer—your beautiful voice and generous spirit. You wrote me a recommendation letter to Harvard that I’m sure got me in. I was a huge fan of yours in the 80s - I bought all of your albums, and went to see you at Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley, Davies Symphony Hall in SF and other venues. After not seeing you live for more than three decades, I stumbled upon magical Circlesongs with Motion at Grace Cathedral yesterday morning. What a delightful surprise and meaningful experience!
