Psalm 23 Revisited. Inspired by Bobby McFerrin 3-18-23, 12:29 Light…
I'm spiritually kin to Bobby McFerrin…
I met him
Through his dad Robert McFerrin while in St, Louis as a physician (now retired)…Pioneer… Black face
Opening up white male MET doors
Locked…
The Black Women door opened first…
By white males…
" I don't how that boy sings like that."
And this Bobby…
Born a few months after me(August 6, 1949)...
In the Mix-Mash
Of
America…
Amerigo, what were you thinking?
His Quirk Soul Music
Fits me so well...
These oddities…
Singular/duo
Eclectic in his artistry...
Me, eclectic in my taste…
Automatically hooked by his first album “Bobby McFerrin”…
My aesthetic soulmate…
Skinny like me at the time…
Nerdy…
I liked singing… In a choir… have soloed… once… “Swing Low…”
My dad… aspired to music… actually wrote a piece…
Learned to play piano, accordion, and was to take violin…
Unaffordable…
Kept my appreciation…
Followed him…
Hiatus…
Then…
“Simple Pleasures…”
“Don’t Worry, be Happy…”
And George Bush… and
He helped me move away from a brief fling with
The Republicans on personal moral issues…
Then the Iraq war…
And then…
Hiatus…
And then…
“Hush” with Yo-Yo Ma…
And helping me to enjoy my eclecticism without a moment’s hesitation…
I kept feeling, my distant soul brother…
Hiatus…
“Bang!Zoom!”…
In all his Quirk Soul GLORY!!!
This boy is ME, just mo’!
Hiatus… Hiatus…
Met Esperanza along the way…
Then…
On this 18th Day of the Year of our Yah (Adonai…)…
“SpiritYouAll”!
My God man! It was 10 years ago!
How I missed you in all retrospect (respect)… And I’m glad I’m now almost caught up and now…
I want to be in your Circlesongs…
And pray that we can get you here in Nashville, Tennesee…
We need you…

Dear Bobby,
Happy belated birthdays and jubilations for all of your lifetime achievements, those duly or overduly recognised ,and those without special recognition perhaps achieved in a more silent way.Love+Peace

Hi Bobby, I was at your interactive performance at Berkeley Freight and Salvage this last Monday. I was the old bald white guy that got up to sing with you all on stage at the end, when you asked scared singers to come forward. A life dream come true for me, but I wish I'd had the presence of mind and heart to tell you when I had the chance how much gratitude I have for all the years you've inspired me and countless others around the world to have ridiculous amounts of musical fun using nothing more than what were born with: voices, bodies, hearts and souls. Endless thanks!
I thoroughly enjoy watching the You Tube videos of your musical improv work. It is truly amazing and your interplay with the audiences is fun to watch. I am hoping that one day you will perform in Victoria or Vancouver. Yours would be a performance well worth seeing. Thank you.
Thanks for everything you do and have done! I love watching and listening to your performances and I'm very happy I learned about you. I try to take your playful approach into my own life and artwork. Best wishes.
Hello. You are amazing. I hope you know it. You are sheer joy. I’d love to take a class from you to get a small sense of what you are able to do. Thank you, I’m so grateful for the love you bring humankind.
You taught classes at Tanglewood in the early 90’s. The highlight of my summer—your beautiful voice and generous spirit. You wrote me a recommendation letter to Harvard that I’m sure got me in. Today I’m a speech therapist helping ppl find the voice they’ve lost or doesn’t yet express who they truly are. Work I love. You helped me do that. Your gift keeps giving. Thank you, Bobby!
I was a huge fan of yours in the 80s - I bought all of your albums, and went to see you at Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley, Davies Symphony Hall in SF and other venues. After not seeing you live for more than three decades, I stumbled upon magical Circlesongs with Motion at Grace Cathedral yesterday morning. What a delightful surprise and meaningful experience! I will be back!
I often find myself getting trapped for hours, days, weeks watching videos of your performances.
You have such an amazing and unique talent, I really hope someday I can attend one of them in person!

Congratulations on receiving the Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023 and thank You for Your music, always "as a healing balm". Thank You!
Hi Bobby!
I watched your performance with Richard Bona and was pleasantly pleased!
Being African, I could relate to your rhythms and "language" very well. You sounded too African! You and Bona complemented each other very well!
Thank you so much for the music!
