I have never encountered anything like your music. Musical improvisation and singing are my simply pleasures and truly shaped who I am, bringing confidence and serenity. When I started making a capella compositions myself, I stumbled upon your music. It really embodies this powerfulness and playfulness - of the human voice as well as the human spirit. The spirit is meant to improvise and innovate. Not limit and imitate. I hope to be able to come to the US once to attend one of your Circlesongs jams. That's the dream. Have a blessed one.

It's been 12 years since this moment that changed my life. My dream was to see him live and when I found out he was coming to Chile I started crying hahahaha. Finally, having sung this improvisation alongside Bobby was one of the most beautiful gifts in life. Today, 12 years later, I saw this moment again that still seems unreal to me.

One crisp morning, I entered into Ms. Deloris Johnsonโs 5th grade class in Vancouver, WA. The year was 1995 and to my surprise, music was playing. It was a song I would hear EVERY morning of her class, that year. As a 38 year old mom of 3, I use the song to get their headspace right on the way to school. Ms. Johnson taught us how to write our first typed-letter on a computer. The subject? The man himself. My 10 year old self scrambled to think of what to say. Because, after allโฆ this was such a treat for me! I typed my letter. We sent our letters. Weeks later. Headshots and signed letters were returned. I was floored. I put my things in a hole in the wall in my room for safe keeping. Sisters, you know. They can be nosey. I moved and the letter and picture was lost. I write this here so I can remember this part of my past before my memory gets the best of me. I wish I still had those in my possession. But the memories were a lifetime for me. Thank you, sir.

Dear Dr. McFerrin (Bobby!),
Thank you so much for your music and way of being in the world! I hope to see you soon at one of your CircleSongs events in Berkeley. And I hope in some way to contribute to personal and collective healing through making music together with others in some way, for the rest of my life.

Hello,
My name is Lauren Holleman, and I am a member of the Valley Concert Chorale. I was told you needed altos for your concert. I was one of the I first altos to respond. When asked if they needed more altos, Bill told me they didnโt need anymore.
I believe they are trying to get me back for not performing in last Springโs concert. I was ill, and I have the doctorโs note to prove it. I was highly contagious, and the majority of the members of VCC are elderly. I find this ironic, as I am one of two African-American members in this choir. I am VERY UPSET I did not have the opportunity to sing with you.
A little about myself: I am a classically trained singer from the University of North Texas. I sang with the Dallas Symphony Chorus at Carnegie Hall in 2011. In 2010, only 100 out of 212 were chosen to sing Handelโs Messiah under the direction of Helmut Rilling. I am TALENTED, and I believe VCC purposely did not allow me to sing at your concert.
Is there ANY WAY I could sing with a chorus at one of your concerts? I donโt have a lot of money, but I would try to find a way to sing with you. It would be an honor.
Thank you,
Lauren Holleman

Iโve thought for decades about expressing my joy, appreciation honor to you Bobby. Iโve sought to teach others what I could about your gift as a on- air jazz dj for decadesโฆ have been fortunate to have witnessed your gifts in person many times over the years most recently in Boston at the start of the pandemic.
As a young woman in the early 90s you and I came face to face at Ben and Jerryโs in the Bershires. I was stunned to silence, quietly thanking you out of the roof of my carโฆ
Thank you. For your spirit, talent, voice, gifts.
Thank you for teaching so many to listen, hear, connect in joy and harmony.

When I was a kid, my dad played "The Voice." Since then, I've watched as this extraordinary artist introduced something deeper and more joyous and connected than any artistic expression I'd ever encountered.
You've survived the "pop music" label, and in fact transcended all labels to revel in the playground that attracts us bipeds (and others) like a rare earth magnet.
Speaking of playing, I thought of you immediately when I listened to an extraordinary artist by the name of Abel Selaocoe. If the two of you end up playing in the stream together (if you haven't already, that is), well, that will be something! He made my day, as you have countless times throughout my life.
Thanks for that, by the way.

In town with a Cirque du Soleil production, we had no expectations whatsoever. We were treated to an absolutely phenomenal experience!
We were so happy to see our Whistler invited onstage to perform with this outstanding ensemble. Thank you to Bobby, and to all involved in this wonderful initiative.

Hell Bobby,
When I heard your song Don't Worry, Be Happy for the first time, it reminded me of my hometown Guangzhou, a city of flower and good food. Now, I listen to your songs quite often while I am writing. They do cheer me up and give me inspiration. Thank you for making such good music. I really hope to see your show in China. My company cooperates with foreign singers, musicians and actors. Please let me know if you are interesting in making a show in China.
Best wishes,
Windy

Hi! I just heard you on the Sirius/XM 80s channel. I bet you canโt guess which song? G-d has gifted you immensely. Your song just encouraged my heart and mind! Iโm going to share it with my family and have us sing a cover ofโฆDonโt Worry Be Happy. I just wanted to leave you a note to say that I just prayed for you, G-d sees and loves you, and I wish you the best! Psalm 139/John 3:16 Kind regards, Allison
Thank you! Thank you so much! Add 1 more to the list of people you have joyously affected.
It was my delight to hear Mr. McFarrin rehearse at the NJPAC in the 1990s I think it was. He came to speak to my Newark Boys Chorus School students during a break. He admonished them to be very careful what they allowed in their minds. Such sage advice!
Unfortunately, though I no longer teach there, I hear they are in danger of closing due to financial constraints. If there is anything you can do to help ensure that does not happen future student generations will be forever indebted.
Carry on with wholesome work.

Hey Bobby,
I hope you remember me. I was the bass player in the band with John Fresk at the Hilton in Salt Lake City in the summer of 1977. I used to get dinner at the bar while you were playing piano and singing. And oh my God, the singing.
I have always been thrilled that I got to meet and know you before your talent rocketed you off the chart.
I hope that you are well and happy. I am. I had a very satisfying 20-year minor league career playing bass in D/FW.
If you ever come to Richmond (as defeated foreign capitals go, its a nice place) Id love to buy you dinner. Theres a wicked restaurant scene here.
And if we dont cross paths again, congratulations on your art, your success, and who you are. Im sure your father is very proud.
Ive been honored to have met you.

Thank you so much for your wonderful and very beautiful music, sir! I have been listening to you for many years and often times I found relaxation and peace by listening to your music (which is both magical and therapeutic). I also saw you live in Aalborg in 2018 while I was still an international bachelor student studying there at Aalborg University (AAU). I thought that going to one of your concerts was one of the best things I could do for myself in my spare time and there and so it was. It was an amazing performance with a great a cappella performance on your behalf (also along with some very talented Danish musicians). All the best, plenty of health, much success, and many blessings from a great longtime fan from Suceava, Romania! Much respect as well for your great musical legacy!
Hello, I am a professor at a Spanish university and I have made these two lectures about Bobby's musical career for a project of musical dissemination throughout the region. In case it can be of interest in this group.
